The Onam celebration at CICS Teacher Education, Mathara, was held on 29th September 2025 with immense joy, enthusiasm, and cultural pride. The campus was beautifully decorated with flowers and traditional motifs, reflecting the vibrant spirit of Kerala’s most cherished festival.
The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome speech by the Principal, who emphasized the importance of Onam as a festival that unites people beyond religion, caste, and culture. The event featured a variety of cultural performances, including Thiruvathira, Onappattu, Vanchipattu, and group dances by students, which filled the atmosphere with energy and excitement.
The Pookkalam (floral carpet) attraction of the day, where students showcased their creativity and teamwork through stunning floral design. Fun games also added laughter and enjoyment to the celebration.
A heart-warming incident became the highlight of this year’s celebration. During the event, Anfan, a 3rd-year BCA student, captured a video of a guest labourer who continued to work diligently near the college premises while the celebrations were going on. The video, shared on social media, quickly went viral for its touching portrayal of hard work and humility. Moved by his dedication, the college community decided to invite the labourer to join the Onam Sadhya. The gesture was met with applause and deep appreciation from everyone present, perfectly embodying the true spirit of Onam — equality, kindness, and togetherness.
The celebration concluded with the grand Onasadhya, served on banana leaves, featuring traditional Kerala dishes such as sambar, avial, olan, pachadi, and payasam. Both students and staff participated wholeheartedly, sharing food, laughter, and memories
