First Aid Fundamentals for Future Teachers

Report on the Workshop – “First Aid Fundamentals for Future Teachers”
Date:11/07/2025
Resource Person: Mr. C. K. Vinoj
As part of the Pre-Internship Induction Programme, CICS College of Teacher Education, Mathara, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a workshop titled “First Aid Fundamentals for Future Teachers” on 11th July 2025 at 2:00 PM.
The session was facilitated by Mr. C. K. Vinoj, a trained first aid expert, who stressed the importance of basic first aid knowledge in the teaching profession. He began the session by underlining the need for teachers to be prepared for emergencies that may arise within a school environment. Mr. Vinoj detailed several common accidents and injuries that frequently occur in schools, including minor cuts and bleeding, fainting, choking, nosebleeds, burns, scalds, and fractures. For each situation, he explained the necessary immediate actions a teacher should take, emphasizing the importance of staying calm, attentive, and responsive.
A key highlight of the workshop was the live demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a critical life-saving procedure. Mr. Vinoj demonstrated the proper method of checking for responsiveness, calling for help, administering chest compressions, and providing rescue breaths. The demonstration was practical and easy to understand, making it accessible even to those with no prior first aid training. The participants were allowed to observe and later clarify any doubts they had regarding CPR and other emergency procedures.
The session was highly interactive and engaging, as student teachers participated actively and expressed their curiosity through questions. The workshop not only raised awareness about handling medical emergencies but also instilled a sense of responsibility among future teachers to ensure student safety and well-being.
In conclusion, the First Aid Fundamentals workshop proved to be a highly informative and empowering experience. It provided future teachers with essential life-saving skills and prepared them to act swiftly and efficiently in emergencies. The session aligned perfectly with the institution’s vision of holistic teacher education and made a meaningful contribution to the professional readiness of the participants.
