As part of the Pre-Internship Induction Programme, CICS College of Teacher Education, Mathara, Kozhikode, organized a vibrant and imaginative Workshop on Puppetry on 3rd July 2025 at the College Auditorium. The session aimed to blend creativity with pedagogy and encouraged student-teachers to explore puppetry as a meaningful and engaging instructional tool. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Rajiv N.J., Assistant Professor at CICS CTE, who emphasized the need for innovative and imaginative approaches in today’s teaching landscape. His words set an enthusiastic tone for the hands-on workshop that followed.
The session was led by Mr. Baiju Ayyappan K., Assistant Professor of Social Science at Calicut University Teacher Education Centre, Chalakudy. A passionate advocate for art-integrated learning, Mr. Baiju brought a dynamic and interactive approach to the workshop. His presentation effectively highlighted how puppetry can serve as a powerful educational method, promoting not only subject understanding but also imagination, collaboration, and self-expression. Throughout the session, he guided student-teachers in discovering the educational potential of puppetry through direct involvement and experiential learning.
Participants were divided into small groups and collaboratively engaged in designing, crafting, scripting, and performing educational skits using self-made puppets. The activity fostered creativity, communication, and teamwork among student-teachers, while also illustrating how artistic practices can be successfully woven into curriculum delivery. Each group presented their puppet skit at the end of the session, demonstrating both artistic flair and thoughtful educational themes.
The workshop was well-received by all participants, who expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the enriching experience. It served as a powerful reminder of how fun, creativity, and active participation can enhance both teaching and learning. The event was a resounding success and reinforced the college’s commitment to nurturing innovative, reflective, and resourceful future educators.
