Frontier Lecture Series -3 ( Globalising Education Through Transcultural Pedagogy )

REPORT
The TCI Learning Convention, a two-day National Workshop titled “Living Teaching is a Challenge: We Will Do It in a TCI Way”, was organized by CICS College of Teacher Education in collaboration with the Ruth Cohn Institute for TCI, Germany, and the Kerala State Higher Education Council. Held on 3rd and 4th June 2025, the workshop aimed to explore meaningful, learner-centered teaching methodologies through the Theme-Centered Interaction (TCI) approach.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Shylaja C.V., Principal of CICS CTE. She warmly welcomed the guests and participants and shared the significance of integrating TCI into educational practice. Prof. Mohammed Basheer M., Manager of CICS CTE, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the institution’s vision of encouraging progressive teaching-learning strategies.
A notable moment in the inaugural session was the MoU handing over ceremony, formalizing the partnership between the Ruth Cohn Institute and CICS CTE to promote the philosophy and practice of TCI in the Indian context.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Dr. T. S. Sanjayan, Assistant Professor and Resource Person from the National Council for Rural Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Head of the Postgraduate Department of Education, Goa University. In his address, he provided a comprehensive introduction to TCI, discussed research opportunities in education, and explained how to submit and develop educational research aligned with national priorities.
Following this, Dr. N P Hafiz Muhammad gave an overview of the group-wise workshop sessions and invited the six group facilitators to briefly introduce their themes and objectives. This helped participants gain clarity and prepare for engaging in focused, theme-based learning for the next two days.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Fathima Hanan, Chairman of the Students’ Union, CICS CTE. She acknowledged the effort and guidance of all dignitaries, facilitators, and organizing staff.
Following the inaugural session, five workshops on different themes were facilitated simultaneously. Each participant attended one workshop, based on their registration or interest. These workshops were designed to provide focused, hands-on learning experiences on various relevant topics in teacher education. The
sessions encouraged active participation and peer learning, making the first day of the workshop both enriching and inspiring for all attendees.
The second day began at 10:00 AM, with each of the six groups conducting their sessions in their respective rooms. These sessions emphasized collaboration, dialogue, and reflection in alignment with TCI principles. Participants actively engaged in discussions, activities, and thematic explorations that deepened their understanding of learner-centered approaches.
At 2:30 PM, the groups came together for a presentation session, where each group creatively showcased what they had learned through formats such as role plays, news reports, and other interactive performances. The presentations reflected the energy, creativity, and depth of understanding gained over the two days.
Following the presentations, a valedictory session was held to formally conclude the workshop. During this session, academic and extracurricular achievements of students were recognized. Dhanusree N. and Mehatab, both from the Physical Science Department, were awarded the University Merit Scholarship of ₹4000 each for their outstanding academic performance. Afrah, also from the Physical Science Department, was congratulated for securing 2nd place in the B-Zone college competition, while Nasri from the Social Science Department was acknowledged for securing 3rd place in the State Level Powerlifting Championship organized by the Kerala State Powerlifting Association.
Next, a few selected students and faculty members were invited to share their reflections and insights about the two-day workshop. Their feedback emphasized the value of TCI in transforming classroom dynamics, fostering deeper connections, and encouraging active student participation.
The event concluded with a final vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Roy, who expressed sincere appreciation to the dignitaries, organizers, facilitators, students, and collaborators for making the convention a successful and enriching experience.
