The Social Science Department organised a Hiroshima Day Observance on 6 August 2026 to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and to create awareness about the importance of peace, humanity, and harmony.
The programme began with a warm welcome to the Principal, teachers, and students. The anchoring of the programme was done by Ms.Kshema Unni, who coordinated the various sessions and guided the programme smoothly. As the first activity, everyone observed a one-minute silent prayer in memory of the victims of Hiroshima and all those affected by wars across the world.
This was followed by a virtual speech highlighting the historical significance of Hiroshima Day and its message of peace. The participants listened attentively and reflected on the devastating consequences of war and nuclear weapons.
A short virtual documentary was then presented, depicting the events surrounding the bombing of Hiroshima and its aftermath. The documentary helped the students understand the human cost of war and the need to promote peace and mutual understanding.
The highlight of the programme was a thought-provoking debate on the topic, “Storing Nuclear Weapons in 2026: Is it Good or Bad?” The debate was conducted by Mr.Swabeeh and MsBasima. The main participants were Mr.Sreerag, Ms.Malavika, Ms.Anamika, Ms.Fathima, Ms.Shahala, Mr.Shalik, Ms.Hisham, and Ms.Swetha. The participants presented arguments from different perspectives, focusing on global security, national responsibility, nuclear deterrence, peace, and the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons. The debate encouraged students to think critically about contemporary international issues.
The programme concluded with a reminder that peace begins with individual actions such as kindness, understanding, tolerance, and respect for others. The observance successfully conveyed the message that the memories of Hiroshima should inspire humanity to work towards a peaceful future where such tragedies never occur again.
The programme was meaningful and informative, providing students with an opportunity to reflect on the consequences of war and the importance of preserving peace in the world. The active participation of the students and the well-organised sessions made the Hiroshima Day observance a memorable and thought-provoking programme.
