National Reading Day Celebration
“Read and Grow”
at 9:30 a.m. in the college Lecture Room and library. The programme aimed to cultivate reading habits among student teachers and to highlight the importance of reading in personal, academic, and professional development.
The celebration commenced with a brief Introductory remark by Dr. Shimna Suresh, Assistant Professor of English, followed by a Mass Reading Gathering, where students and faculty members assemble in the library and engage in collective reading. Participants selected books of their interest from various genres, creating an atmosphere that promoted a culture of reading and lifelong learning. The activity emphasized the value of books in enhancing knowledge, creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills.
A special event, JAM (Just A Minute), was conducted as part of the programme. Students were given an opportunity to deliver a one-minute talk on the significance of reading, their favourite books, authors, and reading experiences. Ms.NavyaSree of Physical Science option delivered the speech. She shared her favourite book list and inspired fellow learners to indulge in the habit of reading. The activity encouraged participants to express their thoughts confidently, improve public speaking skills, and share their passion for reading with others.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The event successfully reinforced the message that reading is a powerful tool for intellectual growth and self-improvement. The National Reading Day celebration served as a meaningful initiative to inspire future teachers to become avid readers and promoters of reading culture in society.
