As part of the Pre-Internship Induction Programme-I, the IQAC of CICS College of Teacher Education, Mathara, organized a Workshop on Puppetry on 08 June 2026 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted with the objective of equipping student teachers with innovative and creative pedagogical strategies that can make classroom teaching more interactive, enjoyable, and learner-centred. Puppetry is increasingly recognized as an effective teaching aid that enhances communication, creativity, and student engagement in classroom transactions.
The workshop was led by Mr. Baiju Ayyappan, Assistant Professor, CUTEC, Chalakudy, who served as the resource person. The session commenced with a formal welcome by the faculty coordinator, followed by an introductory note highlighting the significance of integrating art-based pedagogies in teacher education.
During the workshop, the resource person elaborated on the educational importance of puppetry and demonstrated various techniques involved in puppet making and manipulation. Participants were introduced to different forms of puppetry and were encouraged to explore their pedagogical applications. The workshop included hands-on activities in which student teachers actively engaged in designing and creating puppets using simple and low-cost materials. The interactive nature of the programme provided ample opportunities for collaborative learning and creative experimentation. Participants expressed that the workshop enriched their understanding of innovative teaching strategies and motivated them to utilize puppetry as an effective instructional tool during their internship and future teaching careers.
