CICS College of Teacher Education, Mathara, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Prakriti Forum, successfully organized the World Environment Day 2026 celebration on 5 June 2026 under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental awareness, fostering ecological responsibility, and encouraging sustainable practices among student teachers and the wider academic community.
The highlight of the celebration was the initiative titled “Growing a Shade for Our Juniors,” which emphasized the importance of tree planting and environmental conservation for future generations. Through this initiative, participants were encouraged to contribute towards creating a greener and healthier campus environment by planting and nurturing trees.
As part of the observance, the college organized a Photography Contest – “Nature Through the Lens” on the topic “Colours of Nature.” The competition provided students with an opportunity to showcase the beauty, diversity, and significance of nature through creative photography. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who submitted photographs reflecting various aspects of the natural environment and biodiversity.
The programme served as a platform to sensitize future educators about pressing environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and sustainable development. Through active participation in the activities, students developed a deeper appreciation of nature and recognized their role in environmental protection and conservation.
The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment from the college community to adopt eco-friendly practices and actively contribute to environmental sustainability. The programme successfully fulfilled its objectives by inspiring environmental consciousness, creativity, and social responsibility among the participants, thereby reinforcing the institution’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
