ASCEND
International Women's Day Observation 2026
The Women’s Cell of CICS College of Teacher Education, in association with IQAC,
organized International Women's Day on 09/03/2026 in the Conference Hall under the theme
"ASCEND 2026 - Give To Gain." The Department of English (Juniors) co-ordinated the
event.
The event aimed to empower women in education by fostering gender equality and breaking
societal taboos through interactive activities.
The official, symbolic colors for International Women’s Day (IWD) are purple, green, and
white. These colors represent justice and dignity (purple), hope (green), and purity (white).
So the student coordinators wore the said colour coded dresses in solidarity.
Approximately 100 B.Ed students and faculty participated, promoting collaborative support
as per the theme's emphasis on generosity leading to mutual advancement.
Theme Explanation
The 2026 International Women's Day theme "Give To Gain" highlights that generosity
creates reciprocity, where giving support—such as knowledge, resources, mentoring, or
visibility—multiplies opportunities for women and benefits society.
It encourages actions like challenging biases, providing equal pay, and celebrating
achievements to forge gender equality. In teacher education, this translates to mentoring
future educators for collective empowerment. Ms Adhila compered the session.
Ms Aysha gave a brief review on the Theme and the importance of Women's Day.
Programme Highlights
1. Debate: Students debated on the topic FEMINISM HAS DONE MORE GOOD
THAN HARM on women empowerment, sparking discussions on Gender roles and
gender biases. Participants emphasized breaking barriers through policy and
awareness. Ms.Neha gave instructions while Ms. Liya and Ms. Rinsha acted as
moderators.
2. Interactive Chart Activity: Attendees were encouraged to write names of inspiring
role models on paper strips and affix them to a chart, titled GRATITUDE
BLOSSOMS, visually mapping influences on personal growth. This fostered
reflection on mentorship's role in "giving to gain." Ms.Karthils, Ms.Ashna and Ms.
Hiba were the coordinators of the programme.
3. Two student teachers Mushrifa and Meghna presented a relevant topic through a
MIME. The mime act powerfully depicted women's multifaceted roles—strength,
resilience, struggles, and triumphs—through expressive gestures and coordinated
movements, requiring no words. It captivated the audience, evoking deep reflection
on gender equality and empowerment in a silent yet profound tribute. The
performance was a highlight, aligning perfectly with the day's theme and inspiring all
attendees.
4. Sanitary Pads Distribution: The Boys in the institution distributed sanitary pads to the
girls, challenging societal shame and taboos around menstruation to normalize
conversations and promote gender sensitivity.
This symbolic act aligned with the theme by giving support to dismantle stigma. Mr.
Roshan gave a powerful one-liner on breaking conventional taboos and generating
conversations on societal taboos. Mr. Ameen supervised the conduct of the project.
Outcomes and Impact
The event successfully engaged participants in theme-aligned activities, enhancing awareness
of gender equality in pedagogy. Feedback indicated stronger community bonds and
commitment to inclusive teaching practices.
