National Level Knowledge Enrichment Programme - Lecture Series 1

National Level Knowledge Enrichment Programme – Lecture Series – 1
Report
Date : 22/10/2025
Time : 11:30 am

The final session of the National Level Knowledge Enrichment Programme – Lecture Series organized by CICS College of Teacher Education, Mathara, in association with IQAC, was held on 22nd October 2025. The session was led by Mr. Siddhesh Tari, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Goa. His talk was on the topic “Teachers as Change Agents in a Politically Polarized Society.”

Mr. Siddhesh Tari began his presentation by explaining the concept of political polarization, referring to how people in society are increasingly divided by political beliefs and ideologies. He pointed out that the educational system itself often reflects this polarization, as the content of textbooks, classroom discussions, and even institutional policies can carry subtle political influences. Through thought-provoking examples, he explained how educational materials sometimes promote particular ideas, values, or perspectives that may shape students’ understanding of social and political issues.

He emphasized the critical role of teachers in this context, stating that educators must be conscious of these underlying influences and strive to present balanced viewpoints. According to him, teachers should act as guides and facilitators of critical thinking, helping students develop the ability to question, analyze, and form independent opinions rather than accepting any ideology blindly.

Mr. Tari concluded by reminding that a teacher’s responsibility extends beyond imparting knowledge — they are also builders of democratic values and tolerance in an increasingly divided world. His session was insightful and encouraged all participants to reflect deeply on the teacher’s moral and intellectual role in shaping a more open and thoughtful society
